5 Ben Barnes Roles To Check Out Before The Gold Digger Premiere

By Sara | Thursday, 14 November 2019
In Gold Digger---which premieres this Sunday on CTV Drama Channel---Ben Barnes plays Benjamin Greene, a young copywriter who enters into in a relationship with a woman 25 years his senior. The twist? Neither the character nor the audience know whether or not Benjamin’s in it for money or for love.

Despite the questionable credibility of Barnes’ character, Barnes himself has established a solid career for himself over the course of the past 10 or so years. Here are just a few of our favourite (non-Gold Digger) Ben Barnes performances.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Barnes took on the role of Narnian protagonist Prince Caspian over 10 years ago, but it’s arguably the character for which he’s still best known. It’s also the role that gave Barnes his big break, as he mainly worked in theatre prior to landing the gig as Caspian.

The Punisher

Possibly the most dark, intense character he’s ever played, Barnes’ performance as Billy Russo (aka Jigsaw) in comic-book-to-TV-show adaptation The Punisher was scaryGold Digger’s Benjamin may not end up being the villain we think he is, but we can’t say the same for the cunning, nefarious Russo.

Sons of Liberty

In 2015 miniseries Sons of Liberty, the English Barnes played American Founding Father Samuel Adams. The series was criticized for the way which it chose to portray historical events, but Barnes’ performance is worth a watch regardless.

Dorian Gray

Playing Dorian Gray---a man who makes a deal with the devil of sorts in order to remain eternally young and beautiful---is a thankless role, in some ways. However, Dorian Gray (based on Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray) does showcase Barnes at his hair peak, and for that we are grateful.

Westworld

We couldn’t write about Ben Barnes without mentioning his most notable 2010s role to date now, could we? Barnes’ Westworld character, Logan Delos, may be dead (spoiler alert), but his two-season run was unquestionably memorable. Despite the number of Westworld hosts he injured or otherwise killed, to Logan, everything was business.

Don’t miss Barnes’ turn as Benjamin Greene in the Gold Digger series premiere this Sunday at 9/6p on CTV Drama Channel. Check out the series trailer here.
